Various Happenings

1) My sister-in-law who has been staying with us runs almost everyday. On her run on Friday she got mauled by a dog not far from our house. Not just any dog, but get this, a Bull Mastiff. Thankfully a neighbor was driving by as the dog attacked her and it only had time to get her hip and elbow before he beat it off of her. We spent all day Friday in the emergency room with her. They were concerned there was some artery damage so she had to have an angiogram or something where they go up through the artery in the groin with a camera. There was artery damage, but not enough to warrant surgery. The dog who is never out of the yard somehow escaped the fence they have constructed around their property. The dog has to stay in quarantine for 10 days at the vet according to Texas law.

2) I went on a great ride yesterday with a few friends. The ride leaves from the Progress Coffee shop in Austin and heads east into the flat lands. Most of the 40-50 people were local racers from various teams. We did 50 miles at an average just over 20 mph. It was a great ride and I had a blast.

3) My boys are getting bigger by the day. Angelo keeps telling me he is going to the bike shop and he will be back soon. That kid has bikes on the brain at 2 years old. Tony started daycare last week and is doing great.

5) THIS GUY is definitely up for the Cold Bastard of the Year award.

6) I will be at home for a few weeks and look forward to getting in some solid training time.

7) This picture of my cracked seat was requested by Ron.

Your poor sis-in-law! I hope she feels better soon. How terrifying...

That's a great picture of the boys!

As horrible as that story is on your cold bastard link, there was some good news regarding a conviction in Arizona. A lady had made light of a cyclists she killed while driving drunk, and the judge responded appropriately. Story HERE.

Jeff - she deserves more than 10 years not for the act, but for the attitude.

Lauren - she will recover fine. And yes, I has some Italian roots. The names are a dead giveaway I suppose.

First... unreal story about the dog. I do hope your sister-in-law is recovering well.
Can't believe the cold bastard story... wait, yes I can. What an ASS.
CUTE kids... yeah my son Troupe keeps asking if he can go with me on a ride. It kind of rips at my heart. His little brother will be born March 6th. Can't wait!

Best wishes to your sis-in-law for a speedy recovery. Scary stuff!

Weird story with the Spanish driver; guess folks always want someone to pay, even for their own mistakes. Hope the courts give a big no to that, and make the driver pay ALL court costs.

Has Tony gotten his nickname yet?

That is horrible. I hope that she makes a full recovery.

As far as the Spanish guy goes, I would use a stronger word for him than bastard. Wow....the nerve of some people.

Brainwashing your son huh? LOL Just kidding. That's really cool.

Blue - kick its ass. You are BLUE afterall.

Donald - best of luck on the upcoming baby. Two really is 3 times harder than one, but it is great.

Rick - no nicknames yet. It took a few months to give Angelo his.

Jahowie - nah. He just has the cycling gene. He just may be a prodigy :)

Really hope your sister in law is doing well. Very glad to hear your neighbor was there and was able to help.
Wow; 50 miles at 20? Man, I am so not ready for that!
The kids really look cute and you have taught them well Darth V!
I think that the windsucker French guy is only expressing the opinions that many seem to have about us cyclists on the road; indifference. And sometimes with tragic results.

Thanks for the picture. I might put it up on my blog.

You know Chris, I was reading about Bullmastiff's on Wikipedia.

Quote,unquote :

"However, it does not normally attack to protect. Instead, it simply knocks the intruder over with its massive size and pins them to the ground, or, will simply stand in front of the stranger/intruder and refuse to let them pass."

Time for the writer to edit!

Hope she gets better.

My best to your sis-in-law. My hubby is a former claims adjuster and sadly, the Bull Mastiff is not an uncommon offender in this manner. Sad, cuz they're beautiful dogs.

P.S. That photo of your babies is beautiful. :-)

Oh dear...I hope your sister in law is recovering well. It's always so sad for everybody when people don't train their dogs to distinguish between threats & every day situations. What a bummer.

Good call following that bit of info up with those two huge smiles, though! Totally adorable :).

Angelo and Tony are adorable.

Oh, no. Your poor sister in law. That is the ONLY thing I hate about running. See, even with biking, if you fall off, you can still put the bike between you and the dog. Or discharge your C02 on it. You need to get her one of those taser guns for dogs or something.

Your boys are so adorable!

Sorry to hear about the dog incident.

I've been threatened by Texas dogs when riding, but never attacked! ACK!
