Thursday Night Crit Report (3/27)
I raced at the Driveway Criterium tonight in the Cat. 3/4 race. I got a shitty start, but managed to move up over the next few laps. The pace was fast for the first 5 laps as was expected. I was sitting about 15th wheel or so coming into a left hand corner. The previous laps I had taken an inside line and did so again. I ended up sliding out and crashing hard at around 10 minutes in. As I hit the ground I got drilled straight in the back by another rider who endoed over me. I felt bad about taking him down too. He was able to get back on his bike and go. My bike was not rideable with a flat and untrue rear rim. I am bummed because I felt good and was having a good race.
These bibs are almost new. I am pissed about the hole.
Pretty minor arm carnage.
The usual damage after a crash.
My biggest problem by far at this point is my back. I do have a picture of the bruise right across my spine, but I am going to spare you the sight of the back hair. I am lurching around the house tonight in pain and have a feeling tomorrow is going to be bad. I am supposed to race the Belterra Circuit Race on Saturday. I will have to see how I feel tomorrow and make a decision about Saturday.

Sorry to hear about the slideout. Sounds like you're hitting some good form. I'd recommend not racing this weekend, but that's my usual song.
Hope you feel better. Ice, ice baby, and lots of ibuprofen! And tegaderm, too!
Ouch, glad you are ok.
you'll race saturday.
so that screeching sound I heard last night was you getting into the shower, then? ouch.
I'm guessing your Saturday race would be a bad idea. I raced the day after my crash last year, mainly because my body didn't have a chance to get good and sore. The next day really, really sucked.
Man that sucks! Sorry to hear you hit the deck.
If you do race tomorrow, you are a tough bastard. Good luck.
You just keep reassuring me that road racing is to avoided!
ugh. hope the road rash isn't too bad.
lots of ibuprofen for sure!
Unlucky and quick recovery! Get the frozen peas strapped to your back, make sure you get a good nights sleep even if it means taking tablets and I know how annoying wrecking new bibs is, I did that on my last fall. Get well Chris, remember ice for two days 20 mins at a time then apply heat after 2 days. Sev.
Sucks about the turning slide-out. I'm always afraid of riding in a pack and coming around turns, fearing that someing might slide out, slip on gravel, etc. and take me out with him. The road rashes don't look too bad, I'm sure they'll be fine in a few weeks. As for the race on Saturday, I would try to stick it out and atleast start the race, and if the pain gets worse during the race, get out!
Fendergal - long time! The ibuprofen is flowing like wine.
Danielle - thanks
Blue - not going to make it, I am a gimp due to my back. I have volunteered to work at the race. It is sponsored by my team, so I will work in the morning rather than race.
Bryan - I got on a Cyclops stationary today to spin a bit and it wasn't happening. No racey racey.
Oldman - the crash was all me as was the last one I posted about on here. I am a menace.
Lauren - it could be worse.
Sev - I am bummed about the bibs. I was just bonding with them and BAM!
Zach - I wish I could race tomorrow, but it would be a waste of time. I am not completely mobile. There are still a lot of races this year to focus on.
Hi Chris,
Just found your blog, not hte best time if I can say that...
Ice is good, wine is even better!
Racing? Not sure but get on the bike asap.
Get well!
AMR
Chris -
If only you were here in the Mitten State - you could just stand outside and get a full-body icing. Hang in there - and just remember: "chicks dig scars" Those are gonna be sexy!
Amrcyclist - I am going to follow your advice on the wine. I didn't race today. I volunteered at registration and as a course marshall. I have your blog marked and look forward to reading about your cycling exploits.
Alicia - my wife says she likes better with skin. I guess it is all preference. Live in Michigan?? HA! That place is uninhabitable. Snow in MARCH! NEVER! Where have you been anyway?
Ouch. Look at the bright side, you should be an expert in treated road rash by now. I still haven't fallen on my bike yet, so I'll suck at that part.
Btw, does it say 'FART' on that downtube? Sorry... :)
Ouch! Ouch! Heal fast!
I was proud of myself for staying out of the Crash 5 carnage yesterday (only time I will race in Cat 5 - not eligible any longer). Then I caught a curb edge today avoiding a dog on my morning commute. I am empathetic dude and have the road rash and bruised thumb to prove it.
Ouch! How did I miss this? Sorry about the crash. Hope you are feeling better by the time you get back from your trip!
