Sunday

I took a nice solo ride out in the Texas Hill Country today. I was able to get out early so I could avoid the hottest part of the day.

This photo doesn't do justice to the headwind on the way out today. It was blowing hard and sustained.

A big fire came through the area recently. It is unfortunate, because it is a pretty area in the summer months.

Birth place of Lyndon B. Johnson and home to Lady Bird Johnson until her recent death.

Now a few shout outs. The first to Fabian Cancellara who took Bronze in the Olympic road race yesterday. Holy shit! Did you see him bridge the gap to the leaders? That was freakin' awesome. For those of you who have tried to bridge gaps before, you know how incredibly hard it is. He made it look easy.

The second shout out is to my teammate Jeremy Humble who won the Texas Individual Time Trial Championship in fine fashion by setting a state record for Cat. 5. His time of 56:43 for 40K was damn impressive.

Jeremy hammering the Argon 18 down the road.

And lastly, here is #4 on the list of "Top 5 Retro Superhero Cartoon Introductions."

Amazing how dry it all looks over there. That's how our country looks like in winter = dry season.
Yeah, Cancellara was amazing! So was your friend, great effort on the ITT.

Might want to get yourself a set of lights and rid pre-dawn! That would be the only time I would be outside with your heat!
The men's road race was tough and especially difficult given the lousy air there. Many top riders had to drop out including Schumacher, who was touted as a favorite to win. Cancellara's effort to make that break was pretty damn impressive.
Not a big fan of Captain America. Pretty boring compared to Thor with his hammer AND shield!

After watching both the men's and women's RR at the Olympics I have to ask: why did so few respond to those attacks at the end? Sheesh. Fabian did a great job, but a little earlier and he might have had more gas in the tank for that final sprint. And the US riders were caught napping, pure and simple.

Ouch. Feeling nostalgic for Texas Hill Country . . . also quite envious.

Cancellara is my man - and not just cuz he rides a Cervelo. ;-D

AMRcyclist - this is our driest time of the year. However, it is always dry in this part of the US, so it is always sort of brown.

Oldman - the TT should be interesting. Lots of guys said they had to drop out. However, Cancellara is a favorite for the TT and he was there at the end. He is just hard.

Cyclistrick - the US riders had a sorry showing. I am not sure what happened there. They all claim to be saving it for the TT.

Donald - if he says it, I must do it.

Eclectchick - coming down again in the Spring for Hellweek?

Blue - I need to get a red blinkie.

Probably not :-(

Might be dropping big (not yet earned) bucks on a new bike in the coming days, in which case I'll have no $$ for vacation. (sniffle)

Looks like our HEAT is coming to an end today! Low 90's with 80's coming up this week. This makes me very happy! Strange though...not much wind this summer. Maybe it finally blew itself all the way down to Texas.
