Newbie Ride

Today I took my sister-in-law for her first real bike ride. Running is her game. She runs almost everyday. She just moved down to Texas from Mass. and is looking for a job. I asked her if she wanted to try biking. She said yes. So we went. We rented a bike for her at Bicycle Sport Shop and did a 20 mile route by my house. She did really really well. In fact, I think she could be a phenomenal biker. I will make it my mission in life now to see that she is. HA!

In other news, I spent Friday evening and most of Saturday afternoon cutting my big ass yard. I like having almost 2 acres except when it comes time to cut it. What a pain in the ass. Hopefully it will dry out in Texas and my yard will die. Then I won't have to cut it until March.

I watched the movie "300" last night. It was cheesed up for sure, but I enjoyed it. Those Spartans were bad asses. Can anyone tell me why King Xerxes is at least 11 feet tall in the movie?

Quien es mas macho?

Runners make great cyclists... already have the aerobic base and your SIL appears to have some muscles too.... can you say power? Keep that woman on a bike, tho a little running will be good for 'cross. ;)

I also liked the 300 -- like a comic book come to life. And... I'll vote with the spartans - tho I did enjoy "First Blood"

Don't tell her that bicycling is populated by a bunch of self-medicating overly competitive sadomasochistic gear weenies. Let her think that it's a fun family activity. She'll learn soon enough, but by then it'll be too late and she'll be hooked. Bwahahahahahahaha!

This is why my own sister will never ride a bike, despite my occasional gentle pushes to try it out. She's gone to races, watched me leave and come back from training rides, seen my scars, and wants to have nothing to do with it. She thinks that's what *all* cycling entails.

Syd - she is a great athlete. I think she will take to biking quickly. I rate First Blood in the top 5 movies of all time. All John Rambo wanted was to get some food and they had to FU$K with him.

Lauren - mullets are coming back. I am growing my hair out as we speak.

Fendergal - she watched the last few days of the Tour with us, but that was after all the crap. I don't think she knows what a fiasco cycling is at the moment.

Depends on whether or not it bothers you that the Spartans were all about "man lovin'".

Need your mailing addy so I can send your prize! Shoot it to me at enduroeejit at gmail dot com.

I'm more of a Spartan's fan myself (Dad went to MSU).
Kudo's for bringing another person to the light of cycling. Keep up the encouragement and support.
Dude, plant some ground cover or wild grasses. No one should ever spend that much time on a mower. Think how many miles you could have gotten in on your bike if you weren't out there tending to those "selected" weeds! :^)

Oldman - I was thinking of having my whole yard buried in gravel. Then I could just walk around with weed killer spray and get them as they sprout up.

Mallie - I will take that as a vote for RAMBO, because he was a known kooze hound.

Chris: But you do have a kid(s). You will need that grass for the neighborhood pick-up soccer games, the backyard b-day parties and the new jungle gym/fort/camp/climbing structure I know you will be building! :^)
